PROCESS AND APPARATUS FOR MAKING A PLASTIC CONTAINER BY BLOW MOLDING

A process for making a plastic container by blow molding a tubular parison of thermoplastic material, which comprises guiding a thermoplastic tube into an open divided blow mold, closing the mold and feeding pressurized air into the tubular parison squeezed off in the mold. At least one single-piece hoop ring of thermoplastic material made with the usual tolerances by injection molding is mounted on the section and bonded with the tubular parison. A container ring from an unsorted batch and having an outer collar is used in the process and is fed to a preheat station in which it is stress relieved and simultaneously planar oriented. The stress-free and oriented ring is gripped on the collar by a manipulator whose gripper is oriented in a plane corresponding to that of the container ring and the manipulator is guided into the open blow mold and the container delivered to a moveable holding means in the blow mold which engages the container ring itself or the collar.
