PURPOSE:To clean a nozzle surface of an ink jet recording head without wiping. CONSTITUTION:A cap 11 is brought into pressure contact with a nozzle surface of a recording head, and a valve 12 is closed. A heater 3 is electrified to discharge ink, and a liquid chamber 16 in the cap is filled by ink. The ink and dust which stick onto the nozzle surface coalesce into the filled ink. Then, by sucking the filled ink with a suction pump 13 by opening the valve 12, the nozzle surface can be cleaned. By forming an inner surface of the cap 11 by a component having larger wettability ink than a component forming the nozzle surface, the ink can be prevented from remaining on the nozzle surface in the case of suction. |
