To protect a bus-oriented multiplex system, the bus stations (1...4) of which are connected to a databus via electrically operated bus lines (5/6) and in which at least one bus station is provided with a recording element for sensing the lack of the data connection between the bus stations, against a complete interruption of the exchange of information in the case of a short circuit of one bus line, the bus lines are connected to one another via protection elements (9) and a circuit element (8), coupled to the recording device, is integrated into the multiplex system and switches a current to the databus when a short circuit of a bus line is detected by the recording element; the magnitude of this current exceeds the current carrying capability of the protection elements. The bus lines are suitably brought together at a node (7) and are in each case provided with a protection element (9) in the area of this node. The protection elements can be arranged jointly in a bus splice connector.
