In a converter housing (1) a rotatably located rotor (2) is activated by a drive (3). Both housing and rotor are of aluminium. The rotor is pot-shaped to accept corresp. brake target discs (4) of tungsten, tantalum or gold, and possible also moderator discs (5), e.g. of aluminium, which are fixed axially by means of a pressure ring (6) and a pressure nut (7) and at the same time activate the surface contact necessary for heat flow. Through the circular gap-formed by the converter housing and the rotor-coolant, e.g. water, flows. Between the ring grooves (8), seals (9) prevent coolant passing into the vacuum chamber and the surroundings. The central axis of the device lies eccentrically to the inlet aperture (10) of the electron beam and to the outlet of the brake radiation (11). The complete converter is flanged on to the beam outlet of an accelerator, and the inner space of the converter is under vacuum.
