On a rapier loom which has at least one band, and guides at the edges, the band has a reduced cross-section, in association with the head of the guides. The warp has an open shed and in the event of weft threads being loose and falling on to the rapier band, they are held above the gap between the band and the head of the guide. This is achieved by having a cross-sectional reduction in the band. The same result is obtained by fixing another section on top of the band. An alternative alteration to the band cross-section is to have an angled side, and with the head of the guide set at the same angle. In the event of a double rapier band, the guides are placed on both edges, with a similar cut-out in the cross-section at each side of the band. The guide at the reed side may be designed to be a part of the reed. ADVANTAGE - The gap between the band and the head of the guide is located below any possible misaligned warp thread, and avoids broken ends on this account
