The large hollow sound-proofing brick(2) contains vertical passages (14,16) for filling with mortar when building the wall, also pockets (28,30) forming further such mortar passages (32,32') in conjunction with adjacent bricks. The brick side- and/or end walls (24,26,18,20,22) of the brick enclosing the passages have one or more areas(42) in which the wall surface contains protrusions and/or recesses. These can consist of grooves and ribs, of semicircular or polygonal cross=section. They can together form a stepped cross=section, being evenly-spaced and situated symmetrically in relation to the lengthwise axis of the brick. ADVANTAGE - Maximum soundproofing.
