Quick drying ink for marker pens - comprising low boiling alcoholic solvent, higher boiling solvent, alcohol-soluble colourant and a resin

A water-free ink compsn. comprising (i) 10-95 wt. % esp. 50-80 wt. % of a low boiling solvent consisting of a 2-5C alkyl alcohol, (ii) a higher boiling organic solvent, (iii) an alcohol-soluble dye or a pigment dispersion and (iv) a resin. (i) is pref. ethanol or isopropanol. (ii) is e.g, an alkylene carbonate with a b.pt. of at least 200 deg. C at normal press. and a vapour press of less than 5000 Pa at 20 deg. C, esp. 1,3-dioxolan-2-one (ethylene carbonate) or 4-methyl-1,3-dioxolan-2-one (propylene carbonate). The ink pref. contains 1-20 wt. % alcohol-soluble dye or pigment dispersion (iii). The resin (iv) is e.g, 1-30 wt. % modified colophony resin, phenolic resin, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetal and/or other alcohol-soluble polymer. The ink may also contain preservatives and/or wetting agents. USE/ADVANTAGE - The inks are esp. useful in marker pens and felt tip pens, eps. layout markers for marking onto absorbent substrates such as paper. The inks dry quickly, do not cause wrinkling of the substrate and do not spread after application so that good sharpness is maintained. The pens are esp. useful for colouring in large areas with different colours. The inks are more pleasant and safer to use than prior art inks contg. harmful solvents such as xylol or toluene
