摘要 In a process for removing oxygen from a gas mixture which contains hydrogen and oxygen in a volume ratio of 2 or more, a catalyst is used containing Ni or Co and Cu on a porous carrier together with an oxide of thorium and/or uranium. Examples describe the removal of oxygen impurity from hydrogen-nitrogen mixtures intended for ammonia synthesis.ALSO:A catalyst comprises a porous carrier on which is deposited, in finely divided form, nickel or cobalt, copper and at least an oxide of thorium or uranium, the amount of Cu and Ni or Cu and Co being not more than 1%, the amount of thorium oxide when present alone and calculated as Th being not less than 0,4%, the amount of uranium oxide when present alone and calculated as U being not less than 0,%, and the combined amount of thorium oxide and uranium oxide when both are present being such as to have the same effect as either at least 0,4% thorium oxide and at least 0,1% uranium oxide when each is used alone. The catalyst may be made by impregnating the porous carrier with salts of the metals which are subsequently decomposed to the corresponding oxides and the Ni or Co and Cu are reduced to metals by heating at 200-300 DEG C. in the presence of hydrogen. Specified carriers are pumice, Al2O3, active carbon and silica gel. Comparative examples are given.
