<p>Apparatus for sorting and compacting metal food or drink containers includes a first store 11 for storing a first mixture of containers predominantly of a first metal type, and a second store 32 for storing a second mixture of containers which includes containers of a second metal type. A sorting means 18 is capable of sorting and segregating containers of the first metal type and containers of the second metal type from the second mixture.
