The apparatus provides a vertical face detecting method of CRT employes for CCD camera used to measure the display characteristic of CRT with accuracy. It comprises an input switching section (10) for inputting a certain DC voltage to four circular contact swtiches (SW1,SW2,SW3,SW4), a regulator (20) for regulating the DC voltage from the input switching section (10), a displaying section (30), a voltage divider for preventing the displaying section (30) from being applied with over voltage, and an outputting section (60) for generating a control signal for vertical face detection.
