A pneumatic amplifier comprises a housing divided into a chamber 18, 20, 50, 52, 54 by diaphragms F, 41, 56, the diaphragms F, 41 being connected to the ends of a rod 38 which carries valve lands 36, 40 which co-operates with seats 42, 44. A fluid supply V is fed to chamber 54 and acts upwards on diaphragm 56, the chamber 54 also being connected to chamber 50 by passage 62. The effective area of diaphragm 41 is less than diaphragm 56 to provide a nett upward force on the rod 38. An input signal X is supplied to chamber 18 and acts in conjunction with a spring 28 to provide a downward force on rod 38. The rod 38 is thus positioned to balance these forces and controls the supply and exhaust to an output signal port 48. The amplifier may be used to control a valve in a flow line in response to the pressure. |
