PURPOSE:To enable high-speed operation according to copy conditions by automatically detecting the number of document on a document stacking tray prior to the start of copying operation, and automatically selecting a copy mode according to this number and the set number of created parts. CONSTITUTION:A copying machine body has a document carrying device 10 on a platen glass P, a paper feed device 20 on the side surface of the body paper feeding side, and a sorter 70 on the side surface of the body paper discharging side. A mode selecting means is built in the device body, and constituted in such a manner that either of ADF (first mode) and RDH (second mode) can be selected according to the number of documents and the set number of created parts.
