PURPOSE: To obtain a uniformly dyed, deep-colored leather of high fastness by treating leather in an aqueous dyeing bath containing a specific black anionic dye and a sulfonated carbon black. CONSTITUTION: This uniformly dyed, deep black-colored leather with allround color fastness is obtained by treating a leather in an aqueous dyeing bath containing a dye formulation comprising a black anionic dye or metal-contg. complex salt dye of formula I [one of Xs is hydroxyl, the other being amino or H; A is a (substituted) phenyl or naphthyl; B is one amino and/or hydroxyl, phenyl, or naphthyl; Z is a group of formula II, III, IV or V (R and R' are each H, sulfo, a 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy; n is 1 or 2)] and a sulfonated carbon black.
