PURPOSE: To provide a method and apparatus for accurately and reliably measuring the degree of intermingling of an intermingled multifilament yarn in a non-contact state. CONSTITUTION: In this method and apparatus, an intermingled multifilament yarn 2 is introduced, via godets 4, 6, into a jet channel 11 under application of periodical stress and conveyed by the aid of the fluid jet of a jet channel 13. The diameter of the jet channel 11 is set so as to be substantially filled out with the multifilament yarn 2 to avoid further intermingling of the multifilament yarn 2 inside the jet channel 11 and the multifilament yarn 2 is regulated with the godet 12 so as to be in a virtually tensionless state at the jet outlet. The multifilament yarn 2 instantaneously expands at the above outlet, forming a disposed region 2a and densified region 2b, and using a light source 20 set up in the dispersed region 2a and line cameras 22 disposed in the two directions mutually rectangular to the multifilament yarn 2, the lightness difference produced in situ is observed to measure the degree of intermingling of the intermingled multifilament yarn 2. |
