[Also in Division B8] To prevent damage to a vehicle, a petrol pump nozzle 1 has a spout 4 of moulded elastomer with a rigid metal insert 6 lining a portion of its bore and having a full circle section at 10 which reduces to a half-circle section where it terminates short of the outlet at 12, an opening 18 extending through the spout wall near the outlet and an insert for fixing an extension of the nozzle. The extension is a vacuum tube 17 which, when opening 18 is covered by fuel in a tank, closes the valve in nozzle 1. The spout is provided with ribs 15 for retaining the spout in the tank filling aperture. The insert may be moulded into the spout or accurately fit a groove therein and the spout and insert are clamped together by ring 9 adjacent the junction 22 of the insert and nozzle 1.</p> |
