Autodepositing coating compositions which enable a resin film to be formed on a metal surface efficiently and stably to give a coating are provided by a content of dispersed resin that is a polymer made from a monomer mixture containing (A) from 2-10 % by weight of ethylenic monomers having a carboxyl group and (B) from 98-90 % by weight of other ethylenic monomers, and by limiting the amount of nonionic surfactant to not more than 12 % by weight relative to the total weight of the aforementioned monomers (A) and (B).
