Cast housing for IC engine exhaust lining - which is held loosely by support rings with axial and radial play between ends

The cast housing (11) cavity (12) contains an exhaust guide lining (13) surrounded by a gas filled annulus (17). The lining is held freely within the housing between its two ends by support rings (14, 15) which enclose the lining with axial and radial clearance. During casting, the lining and rings are embedded in the mould and coated with moulding sand etc. between the opposite end faces of the rings to form the annulus. USE/ADVANTAGE - For i.c. engine exhaust gas lines, with a loose arrangement between the housing and lining for reducing thermal stresses.
