The pressure pulse source (2) includes an electrically impact-like driven diaphragm (11) to produce acoustic pressure pulses in an acoustic propagating medium (16). The latter returns the diaphragm to its original position by a static pressure higher than the ambient pressure. A cooling arrangement is provided for the source to lead away the heat losses. This arrangement includes a channel (20) integrated in the source (2) as part of a closed cooling circuit with coolant flowing through a cooling aggregate (23). The coolant can flow through hollow wires wound to form the drive coils.
