: The invention relates to an apparatus and method for reading out information from a transferred information carrier with accuracy without the necessity of strong transferring power for the information carrier. The apparatus comprises transfer equipment for transferring the information carrier in a first direction, a visible light source for radiating light to the transferred information carrier through a transparent medium, a light detector responsive to light reflected from the carrier through the transparent medium and for reading the information on the carrier contained in the reflected light, a guide above the transparent medium and a space control for controlling the space between the guide and the transparent medium. The space defines a transfer path for the information carrier whereby the space is established to achieve a resolution above a predetermined level with respect to the information read out by the light detector. The method corresponds to the operation of the apparatus. |
