PURPOSE: To provide a novel modified brake assembly which prevents the rotation of a shaft. CONSTITUTION: A brake assembly 48 which is used for a control rod drive mechanism for a nuclear rector and selectively blocks the rotation of a shaft 24 includes a static base 50, a rotary disc 56 fixed on the shaft while being rotatable with the shaft and a brake member 72 adjacent to the rotary disc. The rotary disc has at least one rotary tooth 62 and the brake member has at least one braking tooth 82. Moreover, a positioning means 88 is provided and the brake member is selectively disposed at a forward position to allow contact between the braking tooth and the rotary tooth so that the rotation of the shaft in the first direction is blocked while the reverse rotation is permitted. The brake member is disposed at a backward position so that the rotary disc and the shaft can rotate in both directions without constraint from the brake member. |
