Electronic yarn clearing on a winder - by introducing thicker yarn during spinning whereby yarn is sensed by electronic clearer, at winder before being cut and drawn into suction units

Process is based on a thicker yarn being introduced during spinning to ensure continuity between broken ends. The reserve yarn is wound on the cop and spliced at the production side only. At the winder, the electronic cleaner senses the thicker yarn; cone winding is stopped, the thicker yarn retrieved, cut away and drawn into suction units consecutively at each stage. The loose end on the cop is also withdrawn. The electronic controller now proceeds as for broken ends, splices and proceeds with winding if successful. Otherwise, causes a cop change, to release a new end. The appts. is also claimed. The cop (12) is mounted on a carrier plate (10) and brought into position on the winder by the conveyor (16, 18). A suction tube (20) releases the loose end of yarn inserted into the cop tube, drawing it up the anti ballooner tube (22) across the presence detector (30) so that it can proceed through the tension plates (32), paraffin applicator, (36) splicer (40) and to the traverse winder and cone (34).
