The optical symbol display has a fibre optical light conductor with several individual arms combined at one end which is illuminated and individually connected at the other end to optical elements via couplers mounted in a front plate. The plate has only as many openings as are required to display a certain symbol. Each coupler is sealed into an opening and is in one piece with an optical element. Each element has a latch which engages the front plate opening. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for use in traffic control system. Display system is free from optically unsatisfactory effects, is weather resistant and is simple and cheap to assemble.
