PURPOSE: To obtain a compact and inexpensive engine with a simple structure which can start the engine surely by providing an electric motor for driving a pinion gear in a free piston engine. CONSTITUTION: Two shafts 22a, 22b are arranged on an axisymmetric position for a rod 21 and fixed to a central case 12. Counter masses 24a, 24b having slide bearings 23a, 23b are fitted on respective shafts 22a, 22b. Further, racks 25a, 25b are provided on the facing surface of the rod 21 to the counter masses 24a, 24b and pinion gears 27a, 27b are arranged meshingly therebetween. Coil springs are arranged between the counter masses 24a, 24b and central case 12 and energizes the counter masses 24a, 24b. In this case, electric motors 30a, 30b are installed on the pinion gears 27a, 27b shafts through electromagnetic clutches 29a, 29b. |
