The title compound is prepared by reacting dulcitol with an aqueous HBr solution containing more than 47% HBr in a closed system under pressure at 60-80 DEG C. for 9.0-0.5 hours.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions showing cytostatic activity comprise 1,6-dibromo-1,6-dideoxydulcitol and a carrier therefor. Carriers exclude water and other solvents which form known solutions with the active ingredient. The compositions may be formulated as tablets, pills, capsules, suppositories or injections.
