66446-469 A monitoring method and system for a radio communication apparatus including a base station and various portable units are described. The invention involves transmitting a first request signal from the base station to each of the portable units for a first predetermined cycle period and then replying with a first response signal from each of the portable units to the base station only when each of the portable units has a change of operation state. A second request signal is then transmitted from the base station to each of the portable units when the base station receives the first response signal from each of the portable units. A third request signal is transmitted from the base station to each of the portable units for a second predetermined cycle period which is longer than the first predetermined cycle period. A reply in the form of a second response signal is sent from each of the portable units to the base station in response to the second or third request signal. The second response signal includes information of the operation state in each of the portable units. |
