The invention relates to an extraction device. It uses a pressure detector (11) which is arranged upstream of the extractor (10), said extractor being arranged in the discharge duct (9) for the products deriving from the combustion of the gas, said pressure detector (11) being connected by means of a time-delay case (15) to a solenoid valve (12) which controls the arrival of the gas supply. The extractor (10) is also connected to the solenoid valve (12) by means of a time-delay box (15). The opening of the solenoid valve (12) from the control panel (6) sets the extractor (10) in action. The pressure detector (11) interrupts the gas supply via the solenoid valve (12), as soon as the measurement is lower than a given value, for a given duration pre-adjusted on the time-delay box (15). To complete the safety device, the open-hearth gas appliance is equipped with an atmosphere monitor. The device applies in particular to open-hearth fireplaces. <IMAGE>
