DEVICE FOR DETECTING POSITION OF WIDTH EDGE PART OF HOT-ROLLED MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To enable a detection time of a width-part position to be reduced and stability of zigzag control to be enhanced by allowing a throttle controller to open a throttle gradually when a timing signal of arrival of a hot-rolled material is applied to. CONSTITUTION:When a width edge part detection part 15 detects a quantity of light which is emitted by a hot-rolled material 14 and detects a width edge part position of the hot-rolled material 14, a scanning circuit 17 scans each bit of a light-receiving element 16 and a scanning voltage 21 from the circuit 17 is sent to a scanning time regulator 20. The regulator 20 obtains a scanning time 24 based on a scanning time 21 from the circuit 17 and a setting voltage 23 of a threshold level from a setting equipment 22 and then modifies a scanning time 24 for each bit of the element 16 according to the circuit 17 properly. Then, when a timing signal 33 of arrival of the hot-rolled material is applied to, a throttle-setting equipment 31 sends a throttle-opening command 34 to a throttle controller 26 and then gradually opens a throttle 19 at a lapse of time. When the throttle 19 is opened, an amount of light received by the element 16 becomes larger so that the scanning time of the circuit 17 is reduced by the regulator 20 for enabling the quantity of light to be received to be optimized.
