The method forms granular material for use as cat litter, using waste paper. The latter is crushed dry so as to form shreds of size T between 20 and 50 mm., and averaging below 40 mm. These are then forced through a die (1), whose thickness in mm. is determined by the equation E = aT2, where a is a coefficient of 0.03 +/- 0.005, while the diameter in mm. of the die orifices (2) is determined by the equation. D = 1/8<D</=E=/1/12. The strings of compressed paper issuing from the die are finally cut up into lengths L in mm. determined by the equation LxE = 650 +/- 50.
