In the spinning machines, the fibres are fed into a wedge gap subjected to suction and the yarn formed in the gap is drawn off and wound on a package. In order to restart the spinning process, the feeding of fibres into the interrupted and a yarn end drawn from the package is led to the wedge gap against the spinning direction. The yarn end is placed in front of the gap and is stored at the gap end facing away from the package in a storage station in an appappropriatert length. The package is operated by its drive roll and the yarn is drawn from the storage station. After a predetermined period of time from the beginning of the yarn removal from the storage station, the feeding of the fibres into the gap is resumed, so that the fibres adjoin the yarn end and are twisted together with it.
