The longitudinal adjustment is for a vehicle seat. It involves an upper (2) and a lower (4) rail which engage each other to form a guidance system. A pinion is mounted in a sliding block (5) held in the guide section (11) of the lower rail and kept in position relative to the upper rail by a U-shaped retaining piece (16). USE/ADVANTAGE - Combination of rails for the displacement of a vehicle seat in which the positioning of the sliding block is simplified during assembly.
