The invention 1204 to a process for the preparation of alpha , omega -chlorosilazanes which comprises reacting an oligohydridoorganylsilazane of the formula [-RSiH-NH-]n in which n is from about 3 to about 12 with at least one of the chlorosilanes R1HSiCl2, R2R3SiCl2, R4SiCl3, Cl2R5SiCl2CH2 SiR5Cl2 and Cl3SiCH2CH2SiR6Cl2 where R is C1-C6-alkyl or C2-C6-alkenyl and,independently of one another, R1-R6 are H, C1-C6alkyl, or C2-C6-alkenyl, at from -20 DEG C. to +50 DEG C. In addition, the invention relates to the novel alpha , omega -chlorosilazanes obtainable by this process.
