<p>PURPOSE: To make a lowering movement stroke of a knife support mechanism variable, by installing a variable limiting stopper to compensate a decrease of the cutting depth caused by sharpening of the knife, in a cutting machine having a knife movable in the vertical direction. CONSTITUTION: A cutter head 12 having a reciprocating knife 62 has a base frame 46 movable relative to a support carriage 22 between a raised non-cutting position and a lowered cutting position, and the support carriage 22, cooperating with the base frame 46, limits the raised position and the lowered position. A variable limiting stopper mechanism 100 is interposed between the support carriage 22 and the base frame 46 to adjustably lower (raise) the cutting depth of the knife 62 relative to the support carriage 22 in response to a decrease in the knife 62 length at the tip 127 of the knife 62 resulting from sharpening 78 of the knife 62. A setting change of the variable limiting stopper mechanism 100 may be performed by the instruction from a controlling device 16 which counts the number of sharpening works occurring during a cutting operation.</p> |
