PURPOSE:To automatically supply air for forming gypsum as a byproduct by oxidizing sulfite by forming large negative pressure by a means once gathering the absorbing solution scattered into an absorbing tower to a liquid sump to allow the same to flow through bottom piping and releasing the flow of the absorbing solution using flow velocity obtained when the absorbing solution falls through the bottom piping. CONSTITUTION:An absorbing solution having absorbed SO2 from exhaust gas is collected in a liquid sump 3. An absorbing solution circulating tank 6 is provided directly under the liquid sump 3 and a plurality of bottom pipings 5 suspended so as to be extended into the absorbing solution 7 of the tank 6 and opened at the lower ends thereof are provided to the bottom part of the liquid sump 3. Air supply pipes 8 each having an opening part provided at the under surface of the part piercing through each of the bottom pipings 5 thereof and opened to the atmosphere at one end or both ends thereof are provided so as to cross and pierce the bottom pipings 5. Further, piping discharging the air above the surface of the absorbing solution of the tank 6 to the space above the liquid level of the liquid sump 3 and piping supplying the absorbing solution 7 of the tank 6 to the spray nozzles 2 through a circulating pump 10 installed at the upper part of an absorbing tower 1 are provided.
