(A) In the mfr. of insulating double or multiple glazing, in which the spacer frame is coated on both sides with sealant/ adhesive, glass panes are assembled with the spacer frame and air in the interspace is at least partially (pref. up to 90%) replaced by a gas, e.g. a heavy gas such as SF6 or a noble gas such as Ar, the novelty is that (a) two ore more breaks are provided in the sealant/adhesive bead(s); (b) the prepared spacer frame is assembled with the glass panes; and (c) gas exchange is carried out through the openings formed by the bead breaks. (B) Also claimed are (i) a process and appts. for gas filling the interior of the glazing as in (A), in which at least part of the gas is sepd. from the air/gas mixt. withdrawn from the interior during filling, this sepd. gas being reused in the filling process; (ii) appts. for coating both sides of the spacer frame with sealant/adhesive, esp. butyl rubber, for use in process (A); and (iii) appts. for carrying out process (A).
