The process for the prepn. of a subsequent processing operation and/or a transport, storage or despatch process (all to be referred to as 'treatment process') involves a textile package transported from one treatment station to another. Data relevant to the subsequent treatment process, product data in particular, is imprinted in a codable, readable and erasable electronic stroage chip in the form of binary data. The chip is connected to the textile package or the package tube. The data that has already been imprinted is read, decoded, processed for the further treatment of the textile and possibly erased. It is replaced or complemented by other data.Specifically, an installation for carrying out the process incorporates decoders, which are brought into contact with the storage chips and process the data contained in the chips into work instructions for the further treatment of the textile package. New data is impressed in the chips by means of coders. The tube of the package can be equipped with annular contacts connected to the electronic storage chip and joined to the coder or decoder of the relevant treatment station
