APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR COMPARING TWO FILES

PURPOSE: To provide a device which visually compares two files or parts of the two files by visually displaying areas of identity and nonidentity of compared items to a user. CONSTITUTION: Items are stored in a video RAM 34 which controls a display that is visible on a screen. Relative pixels in the video RAM are set through an exclusive OR function and the results are stored in the video RAM so that differences between two items are displayed. The user can edit the respective items while the comparison is made, and the result of the editing based upon the differences is immediately shown to the user and made clear.
