A system for fusion splicing of perforation-indexed polyester-base film lengths in which two bed plates (41, 43) to receive end portions of the film lengths to be joined each include at least one indexing pin (47) engaging an indexing perforation and thereby locating the film in the precise position required for cutting and/or splicing. The system makes it possible to ensure that each splice occurs in a space between adjacent image frames and thus does not diminish the projected image quality.
