<p>The invention relates to a method for diffusing an active compound in the ambient air, which consists in forming a dilute solution of the said active compound in a volatile and inactive solvent, in stabilising it, in storing it at atmospheric pressure, in bringing it into proximity with a flow of air and in dispersing it at atmospheric pressure in the said airflow. The invention also relates to a device which comprises a container (10, 110) containing a stable solution of an active compound, a diffuser (40, 140) intended to disperse it in the ambient air, placed in proximity to an airflow (F1-F2-F3-F4, F5-F6-F7-F8-F9-F10-F11-F12) and having a large area of contact between the said solution and the said airflow with respect to the quantity of solution brought to the diffuser (40, 140) and means (16-18-30, 116-118-130) for bringing it to the said diffuser (40, 140).
