PURPOSE: To prevent erroneous transmission of data by dividing data into blocks having a specific number of data symbols and converting them to code words and checking and correcting symbols by a receiver. CONSTITUTION: In a transmitter, a video signal of a source 1 and a color signal CHR of a source 2 are multiplexed for each picture by a multiplexing circuit 5, and meanwhile, a sound signal of a source 3 and data HDTV related to a high definition of a source 4 are subjected to encoding processing by error correction code encoding circuits 6 and 7, and a packet is added by packet forming circuits 8 and 9, and they are supplied to the multiplexing circuit 5 as signals A and B by channel encoders 12 and 13. The multiplexing circuit 5 performs a required processing to form a multiplexed block for each picture, and it is modulated by a modulation circuit 14 and is transmitted. In the receiver, it is demodulated by a demodulation circuit 19 and is demultiplexed to respective signals by a demultiplexing circuit 20 and is processed. Here, useful HDVT data of a data signal D is extracted and is supplied to an error correction circuit 32, and correction processing is performed by a signal processing circuit 21. |
