The closure mechanism (2) of a fifth wheel has a coupling claw (4) upon which pivots a lever (12). In the run-in position of the closure mechanism (2), only the lever (12) projects into the run-in area (14) of the semi-trailer fifth-wheel coupling pin (7). If the semi-trailer is placed from above upon the coupling plate (1), for example during the transport of containers or in connection with air-cushioned towing vehicles, the lever (12) is pressed downwards againts the force of a spring (15) in order to avoid damage. Coupling by closure of the coupling claw (4) can only be completed when the semi-trailer fifth-wheel coupling pin (7) is moved into the insertion slot (5) in the direction of the longitudinal axis (6) of the vehicle. |
