PURPOSE:To enable production of a high-concentration nitrite bacterium in a short time by culturing the nitrite bacterium in a culture medium containing one or more organic compounds selected from lactic acid (salt), pyruvic acid (salt), oxalacetic acid (salt), alpha-L-rhamnose, etc. CONSTITUTION:A nitrite bacterium such as Nitrosomonas europaea ATCC 25978 is precultured in a culture medium containing (NH4)SO4, Na2HPO4, etc., to obtain a precultured material. A main culture medium is then prepared by mixing in N-acetyl-D-muramic acid, etc., or one or more kinds of macromolecular polysaccharides synthesized by linearly polymerizing a unit composed of one molecule alpha-L-rhamnose, one molecule D-glucuronic acid and two molecule D-glucose. To the resultant main culture medium, the above- mentioned precultured material is subsequently added and a roller tube culture is carried out at about 30 deg.C for about 117hr, thus producing the objective high- concentration cultured material having a 2-10 time higher cell concentration than that in the conventional method. |
