1479127 Preparation of pureα,α,α1,α1-tetramethylene biscarbinol BAYER AG 27 Jan 1976 [29 Jan 1975] 03051/76 Heading C2C Substantially pureα,α,α1,α1 - tetramethylphenylene biscarbinol is prepared by oxidizing an optionally hydroxy-substituted di-isopropyl benzene in the presence of an alkali at an elevated temperature (e.g. 90-120‹ C.), removing the alkali from the reaction mixture by washing with water and isolating theα,α,α1,α1- tetramethyl-phenylene biscarbinol by fractional distillation at a pressure of at least 1 Torr and at a temperature of at least 120‹ C.
