An operating mechanism for an overhead opening door the sides of which are guided in tracks 24 comprises a cable drum 36 rotatablymounted on each side of the door with a cable 40, 42 wound around it, one end of each cable being secured to the door frame and the other end to the rear end of the track 24, and a torsion spring or springs 44 which is or are mounted on cable drum shaft 34 so as to assist the winding of the cables on the drums during the opening of the door and to resist the unwinding of the cables during the closing of the door. The door may comprise hinged panels 20 provided with rollers engaging in tracks 24 at its side edges. The cable 40, 42 may be a single cable or two cables, each of which has an end anchored on the cable drum. The torsional effect may be varied by using cable drums, the diameters of which are different at each of their ends Figs. 7, 8 (not shown). The shaft 34 may be rotated through suitable reduction gearing by a motor 32, which preferably is of the torqueresponsive reversible type so that if the door is obstructed in its movements, the motor stops or is reversed. |
