Electrostatic spray coating apparatus comprises an air-atomising device including an elongated passage 48 of insulating material through which liquid coating material is fed to a discharge nozzle 51, means 57 for discharging compressed air adjacent to said nozzle, an electrode 70 making contact with the coating material only at a position in the passage intermediate its ends, and means 30 for connecting the electrode to a source of voltage 32. Coating material may be supplied through line 19 to passage 48, flow being controlled by needle valve 21 which, with air valve 13, is controlled by trigger 14. The air may be discharged with a whirling motion by angular slots in flange 58. In an alternative embodiment the outlet may comprise an elongated arcuate slit.</p> |
