A special switch (23) associated with an accelerometer (23a) is coupled mechanically or hydraulically to the brake master cylinder, and wired (16) to additional warning lamps (17,18) in the offside and nearside rear lamp clusters. Closure of the switch (23) energises a line (27) to a relay (14) via a time-constant circuit causing the lamps (17,18) to flash for a predetermined time and give warning of a full brake application to the driver of a vehicle following. The flashing duration may be adjustable. ADVANTAGE - Earlier warning of impending collision is given to following fast-moving vehicle.
