<p>A method is described for inhibiting IgE production which comprises administering, in an amount effective to inhibit IgE production, a prostaglandin of the formula: <CHEM> or a pharmaceutically acceptable non-toxic salt thereof, in which R is hydrogen, C1-C5 alkyl, C3-C8 cycloalkyl, phenyl, or mono, di- or tri-substituted phenyl in which the substituents are selected from the group consisting of bromo, chloro, fluoro, iodo, C1-C5 alkyl, hydroxy, nitro, acetyl, alkoxy, carboxy, acetoxy, amino, mono- or di- alkyl amino, amido and acetamido; R1 and R2 independently are hydrogen or C1-C5 alkyl, n3, n4, n5, n6, n7, and n8 independently are zero or one; when n's are zeros, R3 and R4 together, R4 and R5 together, R5 and R6 together, and R7 and R8 together are double bonds; when n's are ones, R3, R5, R6, R7 and R8 independently are hydrogen, R4 is hydrogen or methyl, or R3 and R4 together, R4 and R5 together, or R5 and R6 together are methylene.</p> |
