In the installation proposed, a retentate chamber through which the liquid or gas mixture flows is partitioned off from a permeate chamber by a semipermeable membrane composed of a number of separate hollow-fibre modules. In order to be able to accommodate a large-surface-area membrane in a small space and to keep flow losses small, the permeate chamber is formed by a long-sided tubular container (1) through which cylindrical sleeves (9) pass at right angles to the container axis, the sleeves making a pressure-tight seal with the container wall. The sleeves (9) have openings inside the container (1), and the two ends of each sleeve, which are closed by caps (4), are connected up to a feed line (6) and a retentate line (7) respectively. Fitted inside each sleeve (9) is a membrane cartridge (13) containing a bundle of hollow fibres, the open ends of each fibre connecting with the feed line and retentate line. |
