<p>PURPOSE:To make the use of a sensor simple and easy by providing an optical fiber with a slit so extending from the outer periphery as to cut a core vertically and by inserting a polarization plane control element into the slit. CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber 1 is provided with a slit 4 so extending from the outer periphery as to cut a core 3 of the fiber 1 vertically, and a polarization plane control element 5 is inserted into the slit 4. The optical fiber 1 is maintained with the optical axis kept in accord, and when a light emitted from a light-emitting diode is made to enter it, therefore, the light is transmitted through the optical fiber 1, in a state of the plane of polarization being maintained, and reaches the slit 4. When an external magnetic field is absent, the light is inserted into the fiber 1 on the opposite side without any disturbance other than the absorption loss of the control element 5 and some coupling loss, and when the external magnetic field is present, the plane of polarization is rotated by Faraday effect while the light passes through the control element 5. Accordingly, a rotational angle of the light rotated by the control element 5 is maintained until it reaches an analyzer, and the light is detected by the analyzer and a photosensor.</p> |
