A process for preparing decorative granules which can be used, for example, in the design of the surfaces of structured wallpapers is described. For preparing the granules, a pasty mass (8) is transferred, for example by means of a screen-printing cylinder (2), in discrete quantities or surface areas (26) to a carrier surface (10) which can be the surface of a rotating cylinder (4) or of a revolving belt. The cylinder (4) or belt is associated with at least one heating device (18) for solidifying the mass. After passing through a cooling unit (20), the finished granules (28) are lifted off the carrier surface (10) by means of a scraper (22). An additional printing mechanism can also be inserted, by means of which the surface of the particles is provided with a decorative imprint. Particles of defined size and shape and defined size distribution can be prepared by the process described. Depending on the starting mass and the treatment, the particles can have different properties, for example they can have been foamed by means of a blowing agent. <IMAGE> |
