1,051,515. Sweetening petroleum hydrocarbons. GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. March 31, 1965 [April 22. 1964], No. 13555/65. Heading C5E. The mercaptan content of a petroleum hydrocarbon is reduced by treating the hydrocarbon with molecular oxygen in the presence of catalytic amounts of one of the nitrogen oxides NO, NO 2 , N 2 O 3 , N 2 O 4 , or N 2 O 5 . Air may be used, at ambient temperature and pressure, as the source of oxygen. All the examples relate to the use of the oxide NO 2 or its equilibrium mixture with N 2 O 4 . |
